If they had told us "well, the endorphines put out by the thought of this girl counteracted the chemicals in the bomb" or something crazy like that, it might be better. But they just blatantly ignored it. "Well that's fixed, MOVING ON NOW." That rubs me the wrong way, too.

And please to be linking the comic when you find it, because I love xkcd.

Hilary -
That's where the suspension of disbelief comes in, but it can only go so far. If you're going to present something as science fiction, it should be science fiction.Jezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09685863940739303817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25689364.post-31998031557363259732010-04-18T15:49:52.429-05:002010-04-18T15:49:52.429-05:00Although on another note I would like to add that...Although on another note I would like to add that I like when writers play with the boundaries a little bit. One of the reasons I love Artemis Fowl so much is how Colfer mixes magic and technology. I also really like the idea of magic as a science. As something that has it's own set of rules. That being said theres a difference between playing with the rules and blatantly ignoring or being ignorant of them.Toninoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25689364.post-36203061924693086642010-04-18T15:46:55.838-05:002010-04-18T15:46:55.838-05:00I have a feeling this is why people didn't lik...I have a feeling this is why people didn't like the episode so much. I loved it. But I think it's because people took everything you said so seriously and overlooked the fact that it's a TV show and none of it is real. They can do whatever!
I believe you just need to take Doctor Who for what it is and just go with it. Don't read or think so much into it.Hilaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08818999678870862055noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25689364.post-45442646934854221252010-04-18T15:35:59.219-05:002010-04-18T15:35:59.219-05:00I agree with you...kind of. They have an explanation, gravity bubble, weak yeah but it'll do. What really got me about this episode? The fact that thinking human thoughts lets you disarm a bomb? How does that work exactly?
That bothered me much more than planes in space because the mechanics behind it is left unexplained.

Also theres a relevant XKCD comic that needs linking to. I just need to find it.Toninoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25689364.post-45904251083167532752010-04-18T15:25:45.405-05:002010-04-18T15:25:45.405-05:00Okay, I can't talk about Doctor Who because I ...Okay, I can't talk about Doctor Who because I don't watch the show, but I love how you've pointed out the difference between sci-fi and fantasy... I think part of the reason some fantasy bores me might be because I don't see much of a basis for why or how things happen. I think I like science, even if it's fake science.Jordynhttp://thespybook.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
